Three strong flares erupted in less than 24 hours, and the burst already caused multiple radio blackouts across Earth as scientists tracked the CME's speed and magnetic orientation.
Early models point to a glancing blow around 6 to 7 a.m. EDT Friday; if the CME arrives alongside a high-speed solar wind stream, geomagnetic activity and aurora chances could strengthen.
North America would see only limited viewing areas, but the event could still produce visible Northern Lights for skywatchers if Earth's magnetic field interacts favorably with the incoming plasma.
