73% of Pennsylvania Republicans view Sen. John Fetterman favorably, a new New York Times-Philadelphia Inquirer-Siena poll found, topping the 63% favorability for GOP Sen. Dave McCormick.
That Republican support has surged from 25% in 2024 as Fetterman, a centrist Democrat, increasingly clashes with his party’s left flank and aligns at times with President Donald Trump.
22% of Pennsylvania Democrats now view Fetterman favorably while 63% view him unfavorably, a sharp reversal from 74% favorable two years ago; independents back him 49%-35%.
The split has revived speculation that Fetterman could switch parties before a possible 2028 primary, though he says he has 'no plans' to leave unless Democrats become an 'anti-Israel party.'
Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Republicans have discussed the idea with Fetterman, but Pennsylvania GOP strategists note he still votes with Democrats more than 90% of the time.
