Trump Appoints Mark Paoletta to Lead Panel Overseeing 3 Signature D.C. Projects

Mark Paoletta, the Office of Management and Budget’s general counsel, was tapped to chair the National Capital Planning Commission, which will review Trump’s planned Triumphal Arch, National Garden of American Heroes and a nearby luxury golf course.
Paoletta replaces Will Scharf, a White House official who is set to become White House counsel in September, putting a close Trump administration lawyer atop the panel as those projects advance.
Paoletta previously worked for former Vice President Mike Pence and represented Ginni Thomas before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
In a statement, Paoletta cast the role as part of Trump’s push to reshape Washington ahead of the 250th year of U.S. independence.
