LIV Golf Cuts Staff as Saudi PIF Funding Ends After 5 Seasons

Many LIV Golf employees were told their jobs will end in the first week of September as the league scales back operations after Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund stops funding it.
April brought notice that PIF would end backing after this season, and LIV filed a WARN notice in July; CEO Scott O'Neil says a lead-investor deal could be finalized in September and may allow some rehiring.
The cost-cutting follows LIV's shortest season since 2022, with events in New Orleans and Michigan dropped and the team championship folded into last week's Indiana finale.
O'Neil has floated a 10-event LIV 2.0 schedule split between the U.S. and overseas, while not ruling out bankruptcy; the league also faces two vendor-payment lawsuits.
Player futures remain a key question as LIV restructures, though Tyrrell Hatton said he has multiple years left on his deal and expects the circuit to keep playing in 2027.
