Carson Peters-Berger Gets Life for 2022 Killing of 10-Year-Old Lily Peters

Carson Peters-Berger, now 18, pleaded guilty Aug. 26 to first-degree intentional homicide in the 2022 killing of his 10-year-old cousin, Lily Peters, and was sentenced to life in prison with eligibility for extended supervision after 25 years.
The plea agreement dismissed two sexual-assault charges and ended a case that had been headed for a November trial after the court earlier this month set a hearing on a possible resolution.
Investigators said Peters-Berger was 14 when he lured Lily into woods in Chippewa Falls, beat her with a stick, strangled her and later returned to move her body and cover it with leaves.
Court records cited by the report said he told police he intended before leaving the house to kill and sexually assault Lily, whose body was found the morning after she was reported missing in April 2022.
The case remained in adult court despite defense arguments over mental-health treatment, with a judge rejecting transfer to juvenile court in January 2024 and the Wisconsin Court of Appeals upholding that ruling in September 2024.
