North London coroner Tony Murphy ruled Dame Jenni Murray died on 12 March from bronchopneumonia caused by rib and sternum fractures suffered in a car crash eight days earlier.
Dr Clare Morkane told the inquest Murray was driving near Hampstead Heath at about 19:45 GMT when she was dazzled by vehicle lights and hit two stationary vehicles.
The collision left her with multiple rib fractures, an upper sternum fracture and a collapsed lung; she was admitted to the Royal Free Hospital, moved to intensive care and later developed bronchopneumonia.
Metropolitan Police investigated the crash but closed the case with no further action.
Murray presented BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour from 1987 to 2020 and was later remembered by BBC leaders as a broadcasting icon.
