House GOP Subpoenas Miami Doctor in 2,000-Baby Birth Tourism Probe

James Comer subpoenaed Dr. Wladimir Lorentz, founder of Have My Baby in Miami, after his lawyer said he would not voluntarily testify before a Sept. 1 House hearing on birth tourism.
Comer said Lorentz's testimony is vital because his company marketed U.S. births to foreign clients, while the attorney cited a pending criminal probe by the U.S. Attorney's Office in South Florida.
Brandon Gill's Oversight task force plans to frame the practice as an immigration and national-security issue, especially involving travelers from countries such as China and Russia; CIS's Steven Camarota and Dr. Julio César Novoa are also expected to testify.
The Miami business reportedly claimed it had helped deliver 2,000 babies, and its website and social-media pages appeared disabled Thursday as Congress intensifies scrutiny alongside Trump's recent orders targeting birth tourism and parts of birthright citizenship.
