Taiwan Court Jails Man 5 Months for Recording Wife's Affair With Robot Vacuum

A Taiwan court sentenced a husband to five months in prison and fined him for using a robot vacuum's camera and audio functions to record his wife's affair without her consent.
The man had grown suspicious after finding a used toothbrush at the couple's holiday home in late 2023 and later accessed the vacuum through an app, capturing footage of his wife with another man.
He used the video to seek NT$2 million, about US$68,000, in civil damages for infringement of his marital rights, but the court awarded only a fraction of that claim.
His wife then sued over the recording itself, and the court rejected his defense that the footage was needed to prove infidelity, ruling that marital obligations do not override an individual's right to privacy.
