More than 100,000 Google Play Books titles can now feed directly into Gemini Notebook through a new “Expert Intelligence” feature, letting users query purchased books and generate plans, infographics, AI podcasts, and other outputs from their contents.
Google says the tool also shows the full book text inside Notebook and starts with publishers including Penguin Random House, Macmillan, O’Reilly, and Johns Hopkins University Press.
15 authors including Michael Pollan, Kim Scott, Steven Pinker, and Jennifer Wallace are launching customized “Featured Notebooks” with added source material and intro letters to shape how readers use their work.
Access controls block shared Notebook users from seeing full text or derived information from books they have not bought; they can only see the title as a source and are sent to Google Play Books to purchase it.
Google plans to extend Expert Intelligence into Gemini, AI Mode in Search, and later to scholarly articles, magazines, and newspapers, framing the feature as a new revenue channel for authors and publishers.
