Justice Department Appeals Harvard Antisemitism Suit Dismissal 14 Days After Judge Rejected Case

The Justice Department on Thursday asked the First Circuit to revive its lawsuit accusing Harvard of illegally tolerating antisemitism, extending the Trump administration’s pressure campaign against the university.
Aug. 13 marked the setback the department is now challenging: U.S. District Judge Richard Stearns said the government’s examples were too isolated and episodic to plausibly show ongoing Title VI violations at Harvard.
The March lawsuit alleged Harvard ignored discrimination against Jews and Israelis and let Gaza-war protesters break campus rules with impunity, arguments the administration had tied to possible efforts to curb federal funding.
Harvard did not immediately comment, and the government’s notice of appeal gave no details on the arguments it will make before the appellate court.
