For most players, no—the PS5 Pro is hard to justify as a GTA 6 upgrade if your main goal is guaranteed 60fps. Rockstar has not confirmed a 60fps mode, and current reporting points to 30fps on standard PS5 and Xbox Series X at launch. Technical analysis also suggests GTA 6 is likely to be heavily CPU-limited because of its dense open world, simulation systems, traffic, physics, and ray tracing. That matters because the PS5 Pro’s biggest gains are in GPU power, PSSR upscaling, and ray-tracing performance, not in the kind of CPU leap that would make a locked 60fps more likely. That means the PS5 Pro is still the best bet for the best console version, but probably through higher image quality, steadier performance, or possibly a 40fps mode on 120Hz displays—not a reliable 60fps breakthrough. At $899.99, that is a very expensive premium for an upgrade Rockstar has not promised. If you already own a standard PS5, the evidence so far says keep it. GTA 6 should still be a strong experience there, and the Pro’s extra value may be modest unless you have a high-end 4K/120Hz TV and care a lot about visual fidelity. If you do not own a current-gen console, the smarter buy is usually a standard PS5, ideally refurbished or bundled. Current options around $499 to $549 for refurbished PS5 models are far easier to defend than $900 for a Pro. Only buyers who want the absolute best possible console image quality—and can comfortably afford it—should consider the Pro.
