Haiti Police Face Criticism After Gangs Kill 47 and Kidnap 50 in Kenscoff

47 people were killed, more than 50 abducted and 2,600 displaced after gangs attacked Kenscoff late Sunday, intensifying scrutiny of Haiti’s police response.
Police spokesperson Garry Desrosiers refused to discuss rescue plans or pre-attack intelligence, while a gang leader threatened to execute hostages if officers kill any gang members.
Authorities say they are trying to secure Kenscoff and help residents return, but police chief Vladimir Paraison skipped Thursday’s briefing as an investigation examined possible complicity or negligence.
A 66% drop in Kenscoff violence from January to August had preceded the assault, yet police also warned of a possible attack on Tabarre, where the U.S. embassy is located.
The attack came as the U.S. sent a second deportation flight to Haiti after TPS protections ended for about 350,000 Haitians, despite 1.5 million already displaced and gangs controlling roughly 70% of Port-au-Prince.
