He has said he became absorbed in gardening around 2020, then expanded from planting in Los Angeles to building farms in West Virginia and later Florida. His stated motivation was practical and personal: he wanted to grow better-tasting food, avoid chemicals, and respond to what he sees as problems in the food people eat. Florida became the logical base because, by his account, its wetter climate and stronger natural resources make farming easier than drought-prone California. He now lives there with his wife, Lauren Kutner, and their four children on an 11-acre farm, after previously developing a 14-acre farm in West Virginia where the family planted about 4,000 fruit trees. He has described the work as regenerative and chemical-free, part of a broader farming approach aimed at improving soil health, biodiversity and long-term resilience. There is no sign he has ruled out acting permanently. Dohring has said he will “probably jump back into it at some point,” and he recently appeared in a short film for a friend. His last known screen role was in 2021 on SEAL Team. For now, though, farming is not a side project; it is the center of his life, with acting on pause rather than over.
