Bobby Pulido Faces Scrutiny Over 2016 Defense of Murder Video in Texas 15 Race

A 2016 interview resurfaced showing Democratic candidate Bobby Pulido defending Gerardo Ortiz’s “Fuiste Mía,” a video depicting shooting, sexual violence and murder, as an artistic decision in the Texas 15 House race.
Pulido said viewers were accustomed to graphic imagery and compared interest in such content to people slowing down to watch a car crash, while also saying he did not always agree with artists’ portrayals of women.
The episode adds to earlier campaign controversies around explicit links on his X account, a post appearing to show him urinating on Donald Trump’s Walk of Fame star, and criticism over a registered sex offender at a 2018 school benefit concert.
Pulido’s campaign called the renewed focus a Republican distraction, arguing critics were mischaracterizing a decade-old Spanish-language interview and pointing instead to past abuse allegations involving Rep. Monica De La Cruz’s family that did not lead to charges.
Texas’ 15th District is one of the country’s most competitive House seats, with Pulido set to challenge two-term Republican Monica De La Cruz in the Nov. 3 general election after her 57.1%-42.9% win in 2024.
