That fixation is frustrating Republicans because Trump plans to use his $400 million super-PAC war chest on ads touting his own perceived wins instead of more directly helping vulnerable House and Senate candidates.
Most polls show Trump’s approval rating more than 10 points underwater, and allies worry self-focused moves — including ideas like renaming Lake Ontario “Lake America” — could deepen the political drag.
Republicans, who won both chambers with Trump atop the 2024 ticket, now fear falling approval and rising inflation could cost them not only the House but possibly the Senate in November.
