Eric Barrett Reveals Jimi Hendrix's Final Words, Rejects 1970 Murder Claims

Eric Barrett's new memoir says Hendrix's last words to him came after the guitarist's final Sept. 6, 1970 concert in Fehmarn: "Are you OK, Eric?" after Barrett took a baton blow during a violent clash.
Barrett describes the festival as overrun by hundreds of Hells Angels, with fans beaten and robbed, security chased off and Hendrix leaving the stage to boos before being rushed toward waiting cars.
On Hendrix's death 12 days later in London at 27, Barrett says an overdose of Monika Dannemann's sleeping pills led to vomiting and asphyxia, matching the post-mortem finding of death while intoxicated with barbiturates.
Barrett uses the book to reject long-running murder theories, including a 2009 claim involving manager Mike Jeffery, saying he believes Hendrix's death was a tragic accident, not a killing.
He also says he lied to reporters in 1970 to protect Hendrix's image, later concluding he could acknowledge the musician's drug use while still disputing heroin rumors.
