Corning is expanding U.S. optical-fiber output through three new manufacturing facilities in North Carolina and Texas with NVIDIA, a project expected to create more than 3,000 jobs.
The buildout is driven by AI data centers' need for high-speed glass links between servers and chips, pushing Corning to increase domestic optical-manufacturing capacity tenfold.
Wendell Weeks said the AI surge is giving the 175-year-old company its fastest growth period in nearly two centuries and could roughly double its size in coming years.
The investment highlights how the AI boom is spreading beyond chipmakers into factory supply chains, even as rapid data-center construction risks worsening shortages of skilled workers.
