Mount Sinai to Host 9/11 Health Conference Ahead of 25th Anniversary

Next Thursday, Mount Sinai will convene a virtual conference bringing together more than two dozen experts, first responders, survivors, advocates and policymakers to examine 9/11’s long-term health toll.
Two panels will anchor the event: one on physical and mental health findings from the World Trade Center Health Program, the other on the advocacy campaign that led to federal support.
The federally backed program now provides no-cost monitoring, care and research funding for eligible responders and survivors linked to the attacks in New York, the Pentagon and Pennsylvania.
That support came only after years of piecemeal aid and organizing, culminating in Congress’s 2010 approval of the $4.3 billion James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act.
The conference, titled “9/11 at 25: Honoring the Past, Protecting the Future,” frames the anniversary around both the enduring medical burden and the policy legacy built since the attacks.
