Meta Lifts Quest 3 Refresh Rate to 240 Hz as 207 Hz Runs at Full Resolution

Summary
Quest 3 now supports refresh rates up to 207 Hz through normal APIs, with an experimental 240 Hz mode available on Horizon OS 2.7 via command-line activation.
208 to 240 Hz comes with a trade-off: Meta says bandwidth limits force lower-resolution image transmission, which the headset then upscales to its native panel resolution.
Quest 3S and older Quest headsets do not get the upgrade; Meta says the 3S uses a different display panel that cannot exceed 120 Hz.
144 Hz is already being tested by apps including Virtual Desktop and Quest Games Optimizer, but both stop short of higher modes because few titles can sustain the rendering load and gains beyond 144 Hz appear limited.
Meta has not explained why it enabled the higher rates nearly three years after Quest 3's launch, though the move may answer the upcoming Steam Frame, which offers an experimental 144-Hz mode.
