Marvin Lewis Defends Mike Brown After Joe Burrow's Aug. 20 Warning

Marvin Lewis said Bengals owner Mike Brown "doesn't give a (expletive) about money" and funnels resources into winning, pushing back on criticism after Joe Burrow's recent public frustration.
Burrow said on Aug. 20, "I'm tired of saying next year, next year, next year. This is it," remarks that podcast host Trey Wingo framed as putting Cincinnati "on notice."
Lewis argued Brown plans in 3- to 4-year windows rather than "mortgaging the franchise" for one season or one player, describing that approach as different from some NFL organizations.
The former coach still said Burrow's words could force urgency, saying they "trigger action" because Brown "loves quarterbacks" and badly wants to win.
Lewis coached the Bengals from 2003 to 2018 and cited his long relationship with Brown — including still having him on speed dial — to bolster his defense.
