Jeff Landry on Sept. 3 accused Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr of mischaracterizing LSU targets as “NFL players,” saying they were college athletes forced out by old NCAA eligibility limits.
The dispute centers on 2022-class players seeking another season after a five-year limit and redshirt changes; Dae'Quan Wright and Jack Pyburn were cut by NFL teams they joined only this year.
LSU has moved closest to the issue: Wright has an agreement with the school and has already begun practicing, according to coach Lane Kiffin, even as the SEC has ruled such players ineligible.
Carr had urged Commissioner Greg Sankey to consider penalties up to suspending or removing LSU from the SEC, while the conference is also pursuing court action ahead of a preliminary injunction hearing in Baton Rouge.
The fight grew out of a late-July Colorado injunction that briefly opened a path for former pros to return to college before the 10th Circuit paused that ruling, leaving LSU's roster plans tied to the next court decision.
