Ten weeks after saying he would remain MP for Holborn and St Pancras until the next election, Keir Starmer has now left frontline British politics, triggering a by-election in the safe Labour seat.
The reversal has sharpened accusations of another Starmer U-turn, with critics tying his exit to a broader pattern of abandoned pledges and policy reversals that marked his leadership.
Starmer had represented the London constituency for 11 years and stepped down as prime minister earlier this summer, when Andy Burnham took over.
