Speakr does not automatically guarantee private summaries in every setup. Privacy holds only if the summarization step also runs locally, or if the user accepts sending transcript text to an external model. The reporting around Speakr shows two separate AI stages: transcription and summarization. Transcription can stay fully local when users choose self-hosted WhisperX, keeping audio on their own hardware. But summaries are generated from the transcript, and those can be produced either through a local LLM or through a cloud API such as OpenAI, depending on how the user configures the stack. That means the security answer is architectural, not universal. If Speakr is paired with a local LLM through tools such as Ollama, LM Studio, or another self-hosted model endpoint, then the transcript can be summarized on-device or on a private server without leaving the user’s environment. In that case, neither the audio nor the transcript needs to be sent to a third party. If a user instead plugs Speakr into a cloud language model, privacy is reduced at the summarization layer even if transcription was local. The audio may remain private, but the transcript or extracted text sent for summarization is no longer fully local. So Speakr’s privacy claim depends on end-to-end configuration. Local WhisperX alone protects transcription. To keep summaries equally private, users must also run the summarizer locally and avoid external LLM APIs.
