Summary
Jonathan Bailey said he has decided to step back from the West End revival, weeks after co-star Ariana Grande also left the production.
Bailey called the Stephen Sondheim musical a "real passion project" and said he wanted to support Grande and director Marianne Elliott while backing the actors who will replace George and Dot.
The Barbican-backed production had been confirmed in January after reports in December that Grande and Bailey would reunite, with a summer 2027 opening planned.
Ticket sales had already been delayed until after Grande's Sept. 1 London O2 tour date, and the show's next steps are now unclear with both lead stars gone.
