$142,584 is the total annual pay for Seattle’s largest teacher pay group, Superintendent Ben Shuldiner told parents in an eight-page letter released before a strike deadline.
The district said that figure includes a $118,000 base for 180 days, extra contractual and tech days, and TRI pay; it also offered at least an 8.8% raise over three years with no furlough days.
11:59 p.m. Tuesday is the deadline for Seattle Public Schools and the Seattle Education Association, which represents 6,000 teachers and staff, to reach a deal before the planned Sept. 2 first day of school.
Shuldiner’s letter also said the district sought to start bargaining on March 6, while the union did not commit to a meeting until June 25, sharpening pressure on the union’s public standing.
The standoff follows Seattle teacher strikes in 2015 and 2022, when a five-day walkout delayed the start of school, and comes amid broader public-sector labor unrest in Washington.
