Rhizome Relaunches 2,200-Work ArtBase for 30th Anniversary as New York Website Show Opens Sept. 21

Rhizome is marking its 30th year with a fall program centered on a major relaunch of ArtBase, its public archive of more than 2,200 born-digital artworks.
The overhaul, backed by a Mellon Foundation grant, adds improved metadata, design and discovery tools to help keep works accessible as software, browsers and operating systems become obsolete.
ArtBase will also reopen accessions to a broader range of artists, while new Anthologies restorations include AQNB, X-tra Online, Lee Mullican digital paintings and works from the Walker Art Center collection.
On Sept. 21, Rhizome and ARTXCODE open WEBSITES WEBSITES WEBSITES! in New York, presenting functioning artist websites in a physical exhibition and sale supporting the organization.
The anniversary season continues with a Sept. 23 benefit, an Oct. 28 New Museum event on agentic aesthetics, October microgrants and a Dec. 12 archive-based internet history project.
