Anthropic enabled background computer use for Claude Code on macOS, making the feature available to Pro and Max subscribers.
Running in the background lets Claude work without taking over the user’s cursor or active screen, a key improvement for multitasking on Mac.
The upgrade builds on Claude’s existing desktop computer-use capability and narrows a gap with OpenAI, whose Codex-turned-ChatGPT added background Mac use earlier this year.
A later Anthropic update expanded the background mode beyond macOS-only Claude Code to Claude Cowork and Windows, still in beta for the same paid plans.
