Q: Can a simple desktop app really extend your laptop's battery lifespan by 40 percent, or is this just clever marketing?

Probably not by itself. Anker’s claim is plausible only in a narrow sense: if the app and charger are used to keep a laptop from sitting at 100% charge for long periods and to reduce heat, they can meaningfully slow battery wear. But a blanket “40% longer battery lifespan” is a marketing claim until independent testing shows how Anker measured it. The science behind the pitch is real. Lithium-ion batteries age faster when they stay at high charge levels and when they run hot. That is why Apple, ASUS and other laptop makers already offer battery-health features that cap charging around 60% to 80% or delay full charging until it is needed. Apple says battery health management reduces chemical aging by learning charging patterns. ASUS explicitly says holding a battery near 100% for long periods shortens life and offers 80% and 60% caps. So the useful part of Anker’s system is not the desktop app alone. It is the combination of charge-limit controls, device-specific charging curves and potentially lower heat. If Anker’s Care Mode mainly prevents all-day 100% charging, it could help heavy desk users a lot. For people who already use built-in battery-care tools, the gain may be modest. The weak point is the number. “More than 40%” could mean cycle life under ideal lab conditions, not 40% more real-world runtime after a year or two. It may also depend on specific laptops and usage habits. Consumers should treat it as an unverified best-case estimate, not a guaranteed outcome.
