Sunrise police said the missing order was not stolen: an Uber courier was taken into custody by U.S. Border Patrol while delivering 350 cinnamon rolls to a Hollywood farmers market on Aug. 22.
CBP identified the driver as Ivan Dario Rico Molano, a Colombian citizen who entered legally in May 2021 but remained beyond his authorized stay; agents stopped the vehicle on Interstate 95 after a records check.
Five days later, police recovered the rolls and containers after another person took possession of the vehicle, but the pastries had spoiled and bakery owner Julie Pierre said the business still lost $3,100.
The case drew wide attention after Pierre told followers the order had been stolen, then later posted an apology and said her police report did not trigger the driver's arrest.
