The Treasury Department on Friday sanctioned Golden Global Yatirim Bankasi, calling the Turkish lender a “critical financial lifeline” for Iran.
The move is meant to sever funding channels for Tehran under “Operation Economic Outcast,” the pressure campaign Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unveiled nearly a week ago.
Last week, Washington also targeted an Egyptian bank’s operations in the United Arab Emirates, showing the effort is expanding beyond Iran to foreign institutions tied to its finances.
The sanctions fit President Donald Trump’s broader two-track strategy of economic isolation and possible military escalation after more than six months of war with Iran.
