Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff and Ilhan Omar backed Donald Trump’s push for a federal film tax incentive, an unusual cross-party alignment around reviving U.S. movie production.
Schiff said he was "in strong agreement" with Trump and urged Congress to pass incentives quickly, while Pelosi said she was glad the president had "finally arrived" at the idea.
Omar tied her support to Minnesota’s past use of film subsidies, saying productions such as "Fargo" brought activity and that ending those incentives made local filmmaking less viable.
The push is aimed at pulling jobs back from other states and overseas after producers complained U.S. shoots had become so expensive that filming in Europe could cost less than Los Angeles.
Trump’s plan builds on a broader California push to restore Hollywood production, with Gov. Gavin Newsom also calling last year for a federal partnership to bring film jobs home.
