ICE Lodges Detainer for Salvadoran Man Charged in 2-Death Maryland DUI Crash

ICE asked Montgomery County authorities to hold Jose Antonio Caballero-Nolasco, an undocumented Salvadoran immigrant charged after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 270 killed two people.
Aug. 29 investigators say Caballero-Nolasco was driving drunk and showed no signs of braking before hitting a vehicle carrying four people; police reported alcohol odor, slurred speech and beer bottles in his car.
Musammat Shamima Begum, 46, and her daughter Areebah Jahin, 23, both from Northern Virginia, were killed while heading home; a 62-year-old man and an 8-year-old girl survived and were hospitalized.
Caballero-Nolasco faces two counts each of grossly negligent manslaughter and homicide by motor vehicle while impaired, plus a life-threatening injury charge, and is now in the Montgomery County Detention Center.
