DOJ Charges 5 in 2022 and 2024 Voter Fraud Cases as HSI Expands 9-State Sweep

Five people — including two illegal immigrants and two non-citizens with legal status — were federally charged Friday in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Wisconsin over alleged illegal voting, false citizenship claims and fraudulent voter registration.
Katya Rodriguez, 30, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was indicted over allegedly voting in the 2024 election after falsely certifying she was a U.S. citizen; the DOJ said she could face up to 11 years in prison.
The cases are part of a Trump administration push ahead of the 2026 midterms that has repurposed Homeland Security Investigations to pursue election-related crimes and unlawfully registered non-citizens.
That broader effort has already widened: CNN reported HSI launched a 9-state voter-fraud surge, while New Jersey recently disclosed nearly 6,600 non-citizens were mistakenly registered and about 400 cast ballots.
