Three plays after North Texas lineman Udoka Ezeani yanked and twisted his facemask, Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover hit Charlie Becker for a 9-yard touchdown while bleeding heavily from the face.
The second-quarter penalty spun Hoover’s facemask backward and left blood covering his face, jersey and pants, but he stayed in the game for his Hoosiers debut.
Hoover finished the first half 7 of 8 for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns, helping extend Indiana’s lead over North Texas.
The performance came as Hoover steps in for Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza on an Indiana team opening the season after its 2025 national championship.
