176.2 million U.S. jobs are projected by 2035, with employment rising 5.9 million from 2025 levels—a 3.5% gain that marks much slower growth than the prior decade’s 10.9%.
Healthcare and social assistance will add 2.2 million jobs, or 37% of all new positions, as an aging population and more chronic illness lift demand; nurse practitioners are projected to grow 41%.
AI is expected to boost hiring in utilities and tech even as it automates other work: utilities lead sector growth at 9.8%, including 153% growth in solar power jobs, while professional and technical services add 926,700 jobs.
That same AI-driven productivity is projected to cut 752,100 office and administrative support jobs, while sales occupations decline 1.4% as e-commerce and automation spread.
