Summary
A 44-year-old Ridley Park woman was pulled from beneath a Volkswagen Beetle within a minute of a crash Monday in Prospect Park after bystanders tipped the car up by a few inches.
The rescue began when the driver, making a legal right turn, struck the e-bike rider on the shoulder; after hearing her scream for help, nearby workers, a FedEx driver and others rushed in.
Police said the woman suffered upper-body injuries, was taken to a local hospital in stable condition and is expected to recover; Chief David Madonna said faster action likely prevented worse harm.
Madonna said no charges are expected because the 66-year-old driver was not at fault, and he called the bystanders' effort courageous, selfless and potentially lifesaving.
