Boulder's city manager is considering legal action against Allo and stepping up staff work on municipal broadband even as private fiber competition expands in the city.
Allo still lists Boulder service at $100 a month, while one resident cited Xfinity service at $50-$75 and newly installed AT&T 1 Gig fiber at $45.
That pricing gap is fueling arguments that Boulder has already achieved its competition goal and should stop pursuing a city-run fiber network.
Critics say the renewed broadband push comes at the wrong time because Boulder faces a budget crisis and needs to redirect attention to more urgent unmet needs.
