GPT-6 Astra is now generally available in GitHub Copilot for Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise users, though GitHub said the rollout will be gradual.
OpenAI’s latest general-purpose model targets long-horizon autonomous coding and agentic work, with GitHub saying internal tests showed stronger performance than prior OpenAI models in fewer steps.
The model can be selected in more than 10 Copilot surfaces, including VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, Eclipse, the Copilot CLI, GitHub.com and mobile apps.
Business and Enterprise administrators can control access through Copilot model policy settings, while usage is billed at provider list pricing under GitHub’s usage-based model.
