Dave Portnoy drew fresh criticism after posting an X video he said proved officials correctly restored 1 second before Michigan’s final play in its 13-12 win over Western Michigan.
X attached a Community Note saying the footage was doctored, and fans and media figures accused Portnoy of editing synchronized views of the stadium clock and end-zone camera.
That post shifted the dispute from the officiating call itself to Portnoy’s defense of it, with critics saying he should accept the controversy rather than circulate altered evidence.
The Big Ten later said replay officials used a synchronized in-stadium clock feed—not the TV scorebug—and that 0:01 remained when Western Michigan’s Micah Davis touched the ball out of bounds.
The MAC accepted that explanation, but Michigan’s walk-off 47-yard touchdown from Bryce Underwood to J.J. Buchanan and Portnoy’s post kept the debate alive.
