Summary
Capcom said it will re-activate dormant series after Onimusha: Way of the Sword sold more than 1 million copies on its first day, extending the publisher’s strong 2026 run.
The launch matters because Way of the Sword is the first new mainline Onimusha game in 20 years, and Capcom said it is leaning on its back catalog to maximize corporate value.
2026 has already produced several hits for Capcom: Resident Evil Requiem has sold more than 8 million copies, Pragmata 2.5 million, and Monster Hunter Stories 3 also drew strong reviews.
Mega Man is next in the revival push, with Dual Override due in 2027, while Capcom still has Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen and a Switch 2 version coming on Oct. 9.
