Saudi Arabia said Houthi strikes hit four southern cities near the Red Sea on Tuesday, injuring 73 people, including women and children, at civilian and economic sites.
Energy facilities in the south also caught fire, the Saudi energy ministry said, temporarily disrupting operations as the foreign ministry vowed all necessary measures to prevent further attacks.
Saba, the Houthi-run news agency, said the militia would issue a statement on a “large-scale” military operation, while Saudi officials tied the attacks to a broader escalation.
The flare-up follows intensified fighting in Yemen, where the Iran-backed Houthis have sought territory that could tighten control over Red Sea shipping after declaring a blockade of Saudi Arabia in July.
That added pressure on the Red Sea comes as war involving the United States, Israel and Iran has already roiled energy markets and curtailed shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
