Samsung said the Galaxy Z Fold8 weighs 201 grams, making it the world’s lightest foldable and 52 grams lighter than the Z Fold5.
The reduction came from three engineering changes: thinner display and hinge structures, new materials including Flex Titanium, and a full redesign of roughly 270 components plus 180 auxiliary parts.
Samsung said it cut some parts by as little as 0.001 grams, eliminated about 15 auxiliary-part types, and refined PCB and antenna layouts to save weight and internal space.
The push reflects consumer demand for less bulky foldables; Samsung cited a 2024 YouGov survey showing weight and thickness remained a barrier, even as buyers prioritized battery life, durability and display quality.
Samsung said the same weight-saving approach also let the 215-gram Z Fold8 Ultra raise battery capacity to 5,000 mAh from 4,400 mAh without increasing overall weight.
