Summary
$1.5 million over three years will let Maricopa County expand workforce services for incarcerated veterans, aiming to speed their transition into jobs and community reintegration after release.
About $500,000 a year will fund individualized career planning, skills assessments, training, apprenticeships, work-based learning and links to fair-chance employers in in-demand industries.
The grant also creates a full-time veteran reintegration coordinator and deepens partnerships with the sheriff’s Bound by Valor Unit, Phoenix VA and Arizona veterans services agencies.
The effort builds on the county’s Smart Justice program, which already provides career coaching, training, job resources and paid work opportunities for justice-involved residents.
Until the new post is filled, veterans can use existing county workforce and Smart Justice services as officials try to reduce employment barriers and improve housing and support connections.
