ICE on Tuesday opened a public tipline — 866-347-2423 — for reporting suspected commercial driver’s license fraud, widening a federal push against unqualified truckers and illegal immigrants driving commercial vehicles.
More than 110 driving schools have been shut down and over 30,000 improperly issued CDLs revoked under the Trump administration, according to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, as DHS and DOT expand joint enforcement.
DHS tied the crackdown to fatal crashes involving drivers it says were illegal immigrants who obtained CDLs in states including California, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, citing cases that killed a state trooper, a newlywed couple and four people in Indiana.
Recent operations have already pulled large numbers of drivers off the road: Operation Highway Shield removed more than 800 truckers in August, including 51 illegal immigrants, and a separate Oklahoma sweep in 2025 arrested 120 illegal immigrants, 91 with CDLs.
The tipline also lands amid legal resistance from several states opposing federal access to driver databases, setting up a broader fight over how Washington polices CDL issuance nationwide.
