Dallas hosts George W. Bush’s 6:30 p.m. local event, “A Legacy of Service,” marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks with remarks alongside Condoleezza Rice.
The program centers on how 9/11 reshaped the United States and on a continuing call to public service, with additional discussions featuring Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine and former deputy national security adviser J.D. Crouch.
Melissa Stockwell — a Purple Heart recipient who lost a leg in Iraq — and Student Veterans of America CEO Jared Lyons are among featured guests, underscoring the event’s focus on military service and sacrifice.
Bush’s presidential center is also displaying 16 paintings tied to the anniversary through September and has invited the public to join local first responders for a remembrance Friday morning.
The commemoration comes as the 9/11 Memorial & Museum says nearly 100 million Americans were born after the attacks, sharpening the push to teach the event’s history ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
