John Cooper Says 30-Year Career Shaped View That 'Woke' Activists Hurt Society

John Cooper said people he considers "woke" often have "big hearts" and want justice, but their approach is "hurting everybody" and damaging society.
The Skillet frontman tied that view to his Christian faith, arguing such activism is not grounded in the Bible and leaves people seeking meaning through social justice while harming themselves.
Cooper pointed to inner cities as evidence, saying politicians who claim to help the poor, marginalized and people of color are instead making conditions worse.
The roughly 30-year Skillet veteran also defended artistic freedom, saying he opposes cancel culture and would not seek to remove anti-Christian artists from platforms.
He said he has turned down only 2 touring opportunities, drawing the line at acts he believes deliberately desecrate what he considers sacred.
