Judge Keeps Janette MacAusland Jailed Without Bail in 2-Child Murder Case

A Massachusetts judge denied Janette MacAusland’s requests to dismiss the case or grant bail, leaving the 49-year-old held without bail less than a week after the Lindsay Clancy mistrial.
Prosecutors said they are still waiting for the medical examiner’s official findings on the cause and manner of death of MacAusland’s two children, prompting the defense challenge.
MacAusland is charged with two counts of murder in the April deaths of her 7-year-old son, Kai, and 6-year-old daughter, Ella, who were found dead in the family’s Wellesley home after a welfare check.
An arrest affidavit says MacAusland later told relatives and police she strangled the children, said she wanted “the three of us to go to God together,” and then tried to take her own life before her arrest in Vermont.
The case remains in its early stages and, unlike Clancy’s nationally watched trial, no postpartum-psychosis or insanity defense has been announced.
