Lilly Wachowski Launches Anarchists United, Debuting 1st Series on Sept. 16

Lilly Wachowski has co-founded Anarchists United Foundation and Studio with Sarah Marie Flores and Lawrence Mattis, with its first project — “Cassie Workman Is Witchy AF” — set to premiere on YouTube on Sept. 16.
After Showtime canceled “Work in Progress” after 2 seasons and removed it from streaming, Wachowski said years of pitching queer and trans projects brought no buyers, pushing her toward an artist-run model.
The new venture pairs a studio with grants, fellowships, a Directors Prep & Pitch Lab and shared office space, aiming to build an incubator for filmmakers from marginalized communities while helping finance productions.
Wachowski framed the launch as a response to a wider pullback in trans representation, citing more than 600 anti-trans bills introduced in U.S. states last year and growing consolidation of Hollywood under conservative-leaning corporate owners.
