Summary
1:33.662 put championship leader Kimi Antonelli fastest in Friday's second Spanish GP practice, 0.113 seconds ahead of Charles Leclerc with Lewis Hamilton third.
The 5.4km Madring's narrow walls, minimal runoff and demanding high-speed corners made setup work difficult, while the soft tyre proved hard to keep in its ideal temperature window.
Arvid Lindblad briefly ran fourth before sliding into the Turn 13 barriers, bringing out a red flag with 25 minutes left and leaving no time for further changes at the top.
McLaren also struggled: Oscar Piastri finished seventh, while Lando Norris completed only two laps before a transmission problem forced a gearbox change.
Home favourites Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso were only 16th and 17th on Formula 1's first weekend at the new Madrid circuit, with Alonso delayed by a clutch repair.
