A week after calling Hocker a “coward” over 1500m pacing tactics, the Norwegian settled the feud with a 54.39-second final lap and a 12.6-second last 100m.
The victory capped a rapid comeback from an Achilles injury and a flu-hit spring, with Ingebrigtsen saying he only resumed serious training in July and had feared he might not return at all.
Sunday’s 1500m remains uncertain for Ingebrigtsen, while the opening night also featured Mondo Duplantis clearing 6.25m and Keely Hodgkinson winning her semi-final in 1:57.57.
